From the seed grows a root, then a sprout; from the sprout, the seedling leaves; from the leaves, the stem; around the stem, the branches; at the top, the flower...

We cannot say that the seed causes the growth, nor that the soil does. We can say that the potentialities for growth lie within the seed, which, when properly fostered, take on certain forms.

We believe that those typically underrepresented in the science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) fields not only have the innate abilities and invaluable opportunities to be significant contributors, but also boast undeniable experiences of adversity and deep understandings of diversity that primes them to thrive in providing priceless insights to those seeking to solve complex problems.

We focus on the use of in-person and online methods to multiply mentoring options. This hybrid approach allows us to circumvent some of the challenges typically involved with traditional mentoring. Mentors at various universities, such as the University of Connecticut, Yale University, Cornell University, Syracuse University, and Dartmouth University, partner with local schools and youth organizations to coordinate STEAM volunteer outreach opportunities and facilitate 1-on-1 mentoring. Our goal is to ensure our students have access to the inspiration, encouragement, and support needed to pursue STEAM, as well as access to recommended resources and skill development opportunities.

We will fulfill our mission by:

  • Creating partnerships between K-12 students, institutions of higher education, and STEAM professionals to stimulate and sustain student interest in the STEAM fields.

  • Selecting college mentors with a vested interest in sharing their best advice, wisdom, and insight to support the academic, professional, and cultural development of their mentees.

  • Providing ongoing trainings for mentors to share best practices and cultivate a community of mentors at various universities.

Our program currently primarily serves students located in the states of Connecticut, New York, and Washington D.C. Check out our social media pages for updates on our activity and publications for more!
